( oh. the--the jacket itself is nice, it's a nice fabric, nice textured, the designs on the side are great and jon doesn't even really care that much for fancy stitchings and the like. it's nice enough to have gotten a nice comment on that alone, really.
but damian turns it around and shows the back of it, and jon raises a hand to his mouth. stifles the immediate yell of "that's amazing!!" because he's sure damian isn't done talking yet. he isn't. and heck, for being a huge brat damian is still absolutely amazing. )
Damian, it's amazing!
( loudly, voice a little too high-pitched. but. )
Did you make this? Where did you learn to do that?!
I could, but no, not this one. It would take a while to cure the hide for the leather. I found it excavating one of the old buildings in town a little while back.
[The jacket is lowered into his hands where he holds it around the sleeves and shoulders, emblem up.]
I thought about keeping it for myself. [It would have been a nice outfit. But alas, Friendship got in the way.] It wasn't in great shape, but I had to tailor it to your measurements, so a lot of the rougher pieces were cut away or patched.
I had to butcher the Robin outfit to get the material for the symbol. [He glances down at the shining emblem, running his thumbs over the stitching. There's a long pause as he looks it over. And then, softly:] ...It was worth it. [There's the faintest hints of a smile at the corner of his lips, and he glances back up.]
Are you going to take it, or just stand there like an idiot and gawk?
( damian's robin gear was sacrificed for it. even if he wasn't wearing it around anymore, jon still knows that it meant a lot to damian. giving up something nice, too, it's. .
sweet. different, for damian, but not in a bad way. jon appreciates the gesture more than anything else, but the quality of the jacket's amazing too. it means a lot. that he would sacrifice robing for it, would give it to jon instead of keep it himself, would wait for him to get home on his bed like a weirdo to hand it over. there's a moment where he almost tells damian maybe he should put the pieces back onto the robin costume, that being robin is important and he shouldn't sacrifice that--
but he keeps his mouth shut, because that sounds ungrateful. and jon is anything but. both hands extend palm-out to take the jacket, delicately holding it between fingers. )
Thank you, Damian. It's amazing. I don't know what to say? This looks great.
No. [Most of what he says is always going to be eloquent, but sometimes, it takes a little bit for him to get the nerve to get it out. If it's softer, if it's sentimental. He may not remember his father, but there's a letter he still has, one he thinks he may have brought from home or been given as a reward, and it's sincere and earnest, and so much like this father. And he thinks about what it says a lot of the time now.] Thank you.
For... [HANG ON, dammit, it's hard having feelings.] What all I said before. [Nailed it.] For being my best friend even though we've been thrown into another God forsaken universe.
The courting was the stupidest thing, and I never want to be a part of it again, but... I'm aware you tried to cheer me up even if you won't admit it. I acknowledge your attempt.
Forget it. [Abort.] I'm thankful you're my friend, and I wanted to give you a gift that meant something. Hope, right? Your symbol.
Even if I don't have the uniform, I'll always be Robin, and no one here has to know who Robin is for me to do what needs to be done. But Superboy is different. People here are going to see it, they should see it. When they see it, they'll be inspired. That things are going to be okay.
Hope. ( he repeats it, keeps eyes down on the "S" symbol stitched with such care into the back of the jacket. that is what it stands for, the house of el sigil. hope. damian opens his mouth and spills such--different words for him, words jon honestly never expected. they're not bad though; it's unexpected in a great way.
jon can't help the smile, can't help but start immediately sliding the jacket on, taking the time to pull the hem down over the waist of his jeans. it fits, obviously; damian is more than observant enough to get the measurements right. hands pat down the front, making sure there are no wrinkles. )
You know that too, right? That things're going to be okay. That we've got this! Robin and Superboy, the new and improved duo! We can handle anything this place throws at us, nothing'll be too much. 'cause we're strong, and we work together, as a team.
( no space for a response, but jon takes a moment to turn himself around. tilts his head back to try and eye the back of the jacket. )
[He's quiet while Jon tries on the jacket, and he surveys his own work now that it's being worn by the right party. Not bad, but he's rather prideful in the things he does... therefore, biased.]
At least you won't freeze to death, and you don't look like a complete moron either. [The barest hints of a smirk find the edge of his lips. TEASING.
Then it softens slightly.] It fits you. Can you move alright? The laces on the arms can be loosened or tightened.
Try not to destroy it before you've had it for a week.
